Maria Michaels Designs
I am the owner of Quilts for Sale and half of the Maria Michaels Design Team. The other half is my husband, Michael, an artist and retired high school art, history, math, and phys.ed teacher. - I have been quilting since 1985 and am a retired elementary school teacher, quilt teacher, quilt designer, and web designer/webmaster. I create my own designs as well as many inspired by Michael's art. In fact, it was his art that inspired me to become a designer in 2001. My quilts and designs have appeared in Miniature Quilt Magazine, Quiltmaker, The Quilt Pattern Magazine (TQPM), and The Canadian Quilter. I am an Island Batik Ambassador and the Cofounder and Editor of The Quilt Pattern Magazine (TQPM), a digital publication. - And no, my designs don't automatically appear in TQPM. Like everyone else's they must be accepted and approved by our Pattern Editor. :-)

Sunflower Fields #2
Size: 28 x 33 inches (Wall Size)
Description: As one of Island Batik's Ambassadors, in 2015 I was sent fabric and asked to design a quilt using it. I often say that fabric tells us what it wants to be. Sure enough, after looking at these gorgeous batiks a while, they did let me know. Sunflower Fields #2 is the result. - For some parts of the scene, I used whole pieces of the batiks. For others, such as the sunflowers, I cut out sunflowers, appliqued them to the quilt, then emphasized them with decorative embroidery. In fact, all the raw edges have been finished with machine embroidery. The tree was made by cutting out sections of the fabric and arranging and overlapping them to create the tree. Beyond the sunflower fields and below the mountain range, shadowy figures of forest animals can be seen. - The back is a black plaid and is interesting because it shows the colourful outlines of the entire quilt. - This original, unique design is a one-and-only piece.
A hanging sleeve has been sewn to the upper back of the quilt.
