I can't remember when I didn't have a needle in my hand, but have been a quilter for only 15 years. My sewing experiences include making most of my own clothes since I was 13 years old, costume construction for a local theater, a bespoke shirt-tailoring business, and a cloth purse business with multiple original applique designs for embellishment. Then I fell in love with quilting! My favorite step of the quilting process is the actual machine piecing. Choosing fabrics and colors, although time consuming and labor intensive, is another guilty pleasure, like handing me a box of crayons and turning me loose with a blank canvas. Inspiration comes from the myriad fabrics and patterns available, but I'm not a fan of kits. Working with colors I love and a good sense of what works leads me to outcomes I like to describe as aha moments. My work has been shown at numerous venues, some juried, and I have amassed a substantial number of ribbons at my state fair over the past 10 years, including several Best of Show and People's Choice awards. The never-ending challenge of creating new works, from miniature to king-size quilts, whether with a collection of theme fabrics or hundreds of scraps, renews my artistic spirit on a daily basis.
