Geraldine Dempsay
Geraldine Dempsay
When Geraldine was a child, she helped her mother to make quilts by hand. Nowadays she does all of her quilting by machine. She regularly makes lap robes for the VA hospital, Hospice, and a children's charity, as well as making and giving quilts to her children and grandchildren. Since purchasing a longarm quilting machine in 1994, she has kept busy quilting for others and many of her quilts are blue ribbon winners. Geraldine entered 2 of her quilts in the large, 2015 Geary County Fair. Her entries were placed in the Open Class - quilts pieced and quilted by one person (with 52 quilts entered). The judges comments for Bali: "A beautiful Stack and Whack with well matched centers, precise piecing. Brave to use black thread which shows up beautifully on back. She knows what shes doing!" Fall Harvest: "Beautiful fun, striking colors separated by black. Nice to see prints used with batiks. She spent a lot of time quilting this one. Nice binding, square." She won "Champion" ribbons for both. - Geraldine recently retired from the Sheriff's Department and is devoting more time to quilting. She especially likes making kaleidoscope quilts, because the designs that develop are so unique that no two are ever the same. Her favorite quilting technique is free motion.
Her dog, a Maltese/Poodle mix that she rescued, is dander and shed-free. Geraldine works in a smoke-free environment. She accepts commissions.

I received the quilt 11/24 but was so busy with Thanksgiving I did not have the time to reply until today. Read Me To Sleep is absolutely beautiful and looks great in my daughter's old bedroom. She came for Thanksgiving and of course slept in her room and was the first to use it. she loves it but it will stay with me "thank the Lord" because she has a queen sized bed in her co-op. Love it! Love it!!!! Thanks again. Will keep in touch. - Lyn B., U.S.

My name is Kristen and I purchased Geraldine Dempsay's Dragon quilt. It is absolutely beautiful! Dragons are the one and only thing that I collect and I have wanted a dragon-themed bedspread of some sort for a long time. I've seen Geraldine's page and thought her work looked great. I got the Dragon quilt and the craftmanship is just out of this world. The detail and stitching are gorgeous. I didn't realize a quilt could have that much detail in the stitching and still be so warm and comfortable. I could not be more pleased with it and wanted to let you know. Please pass along my thanks to Geraldine for the wonderful quilt! - Kristen Ehrlich, Springfield, Oregon

The quilt (The Geishas) and jacket (Red Hat, Betty Boop) are beautiful, Gerry! Thank you very much! - Kathy Figler, Oregon

Our cottage is even more special with the new quilt Sunflower Twist on the wall. Have a happy and a healthy New Year, Gerry, and keep creating things of beauty. - Best, Ruth Lowenberg, NY

Jungle Beauty
Size: 41 x 59 inches (Table %opper, Lap/Throw or Wall Size)

The print was so bright I decided to tone it down with the narrow fabric strips. The back is a solid gold and can be reversed for table use. It lies nice and flat.
I would add a sleeve for hanging upon request, at final sale. (It would have to run lengthwise to keep print upright.)

Oriental Birds

Oriental Birds
Size: 54 x 63 inches (Lap/Throw Size)
Description: These Japanese birds are very colorful, but I chose toned-down fabric to complement the quilt and to give it a peaceful effect. It will blend in nicely in any room in your home. The same fabric is used in the border. Curved piecing draws it all together. The Crepe Myrtle quilting shows the design nicely on the back making it reversible. Oriental Birds won a Blue Ribbon at the fair. I am wool-sensitive, and had no problem with this batting.
Technique: Machine Pieced. Binding is machine-sewn to one side, then hand-turned and stitched to the reverse side. The free-motion quilting was done on a longarm machine.
