#906 Joyce Evanishen

I live in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia and have been quilting for over 20 years. I do a variety of quilting and quilt sizes from bed-sized quilts, lap quilts, and my favorites, baby quilts. I also do a lot of appliqueing on wall hangings and baby quilts. I do my own piecing and quilting on my domestic Janome machine. Most of my work has been traditional quilting. However, I have been exploring with some modern-style quilting. I belong to a Fiber Art group and won a Rosette for a Canadian Quilter Guild challenge in 2010.

My home is scent-free and smoke-free.

#90603 Forest Wildfires

Designed by: American Quilter Magazine (New York Beauty Block)
Size: 36″ x 46″ (91cm x 117cm)
Description: This striking wall hanging is made of variations of the classic New York Beauty quilt block. The inspiration for this quilt was the summer of 2009 (and many years since) when our province was ablaze with forest fires. The green circles starting with the yellow through to the red represent the fire destroying our trees. The gray is the smoke and ash created by the fires. The charcoal border depicts the aftermath of the burnt forest floor and trees. The background has subtle shadings of gray.
There is a hanging sleeve. The label on the back includes a description of the inspiration for the quilt, a color picture of the front of the quilt, and the quiltmaker’s name and date made. This information (the quilt’s provenance) is valued by collectors and adds value to the piece over time.

#90606 Totem Poles Set

Designed by: Tommy Joseph
Size: 19″ x 41″ (48cm x 104cm)
Description: Tommy Joseph, of the Eagle Moiety, Kaagwaantaan Clan, has been actively engaged in Northwest Coast carving since 1982 as an instructor, interpreter/demonstrator and as a commissioned artist. He has produced a wide range of artwork including 35 foot totems, smaller house posts, intricately carved and inlaid masks, and a wide range of bentwood containers. He has replicated Tlingit ceremonial armor, featured in a museum show. Tommy owns the Raindance Gallery in Sitka.
The totems represent the two Moieties of the Tlingit Indians, the Eagle and the Raven. Each moiety is the head of multiple clans. The Bear is a clan in the Eagle Moiety and the Beaver is a can in the Raven Moiety.
This pair of wall hangings are made using a two-color applique technique. I have hand-cut each shape on the totem poles and machine stippled around the poles and free-motioned quilted on the bodies to enhance the wood grain appearance.
This pair of totem poles will make a wonderful addition to any home or office.
